Grove Gatherings

Alternative Lifestyle Philosophy

In the early 1960’s a small group of people became concerned about the way the world appeared to be heading.

They decided to explore different ‘Alternative’ ways of doing things in the hope that by changing their actions they could create their dream for a better world.

They looked at alternatives in many aspects of life with an emphasis on sustainability and working with nature;

  • Alternative methods of agriculture and horticulture, avoiding chemical fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides
  • Alternative forms of energy to those that are mined from our planets limited natural resources
  • Alternative spiritual paths rather than fundamentalism
  • Alternative orderings of society to those of western industrialised nations
  • Alternative methods of healing, avoiding allopathic drugs
  • Alternative ways of looking after the environment rather than logging the rain forest
  • Alternative family groups to male dominated nuclear families

While some outcomes were erratic, by keeping open minds and a focus on their utopian goals, alternative life-stylers achieved a viable synthesis.

Millions of people around the world now aspire to this ideology.

Many sub-groups have been formed limited to a particular alternative.

At the Grove we have sought to re-establish communication between these various groups of like-minded people.

We want to return to a more holistic approach to life in mutual respect of each other and the planet.
